Piezas singulares de cantería en la obra murciana de Jaime Bort y Pedro Fernández

Abstract

[ESP] El artículo analiza una serie de piezas singulares de cantería construidas en el tercio central del siglo XVIII bajo la dirección de Jaime Bort y su sucesor en la maestría de las obras de la catedral de Murcia, Pedro Fernández; en particular, se tratan las trompas del Puente Viejo, los nichos de Santa Teresa de Jesús y Santo Tomás de Aquino del imafronte, la bóveda oval que remata esta fachada y dos arcos esviados de planta trapecial o cuernos de vaca de la contrafachada. Se estudia su disposición espacial y su relación con los tratados y manuscritos de cantería españoles y franceses de los dos siglos precedentes. Todo esto muestra el sólido conocimiento de la literatura canteril por parte de los constructores murcianos, que no excluye la aportación de soluciones originales. [ENG] This article deals with a number of remarkable stonemasonry members built in the mid-eighteenth century under the direction of Jaime Bort and Pedro Fernández, his successor as master mason in Murcia cathedral; in particular, the trumpet squinches in the Old Bridge over the Segura river, the niches of Santa Teresa de Jesús and Saint Thomas Aquinas in the West front of the cathedral, the oval vault over this façade, and two trapecial-plan skew arches or cornes-de-boeuf in the inner face of this front. Both the spatial disposition of these pieces and their connections with Spanish and French stonecutting manuscripts from the 16th and 17th centuries are analysed. All this shows a substantial knowledge of stereotomic literature by these builders, which does not exclude original contributions.
