Walter Gropius en la Wießenhofsiedlung. Dos prototipos de viviendas industriualizadas

Abstract

[ESP] En 1927 Gropius presenta las viviendas 16 y 17 en la colonia experimental de Stuttgart, primer punto de encuentro de los representantes de la nueva arquitectura y preludio del primer CIAM. Mies van der Rohe, director artístico de la exposición, marca unas directrices mínimas para enfocar el tema de la vivienda moderna. Se permite la experimentación con técnicas y materiales nuevos pero espacio y forma tienen prioridad. Sin embargo, Gropius lleva al límite la experimentación, probando nuevos métodos de proyecto y construcción para una nueva arquitectura que ha de responder a nuevas necesidades sociales. Para ello utiliza la coordinación dimensional y la construcción en seco. El resultado, no exento de críticas, muestra las posibilidades y carencias de la industria de la época, abriendo una línea en la que seguir investigando. [ENG] In 1927 Gropius presents the 16 and 17 dwellings in the experimental housing estate of Stuttgart, first meeting point of the new architecture’s representatives and prelude of the first CIAM. Mies van der Rohe, artistic director of the xhibition, marks minimum guidelines to focus the modern housing’s study. Experimentation with new techniques and materials is allowed, but space and form have priority. However, Gropius takes the experimentation to the limit, trying new methods of design and construction for a new architecture that has to respond to new social needs. For that purpose, he uses the dimensional coordination and dry construction techniques. The result, not free of critics, shows the posibilities and lacks of the industry in that period, opening a new line of research.
