[ENG] In the medium term networks will undoubtedly bring the attention to the end-user, who will become thecentre of services and applications. One of the potential applications will be the adaptation to users’ environments and their capacities. This is, offering each person a portfolio of services which will dependon the particular characteristics of his/her context. It is not only about how the information is adapted, or the way it is shown, but also how the subjacent physical medium is adapted to the benefit of the user. For example, such applications often bring up in the digital-home world; homes are intelligent environments where conditions change in order to increase the user comfort. In our proposal this property is fostered, managing user information to direct the adaptations performed by the environment. The key aspect of these applications is that they do not require direct user participation, and thus the services platform isvalid for any user, ranging from expert to beginner ones. Furthermore, as commented before, final adaptation depends on the user herself, on her profile. This must be known by the network, in order to be able to adapt its operation in a suitable way. The application of this of this kind of scenario to specific groups is an example of its capacity. For instance, disable or old people may benefit significantly from the smart environments created, due to theproperty of auto-adaptability. A disable people with limited mobility in the nearby of smart environment may have personalized aids like automatic door opening, automatic elevators call with an implicit indication of the destination floor (that is, without the necessity that the user push the button, and action that may be difficult because of his/her disability). In addition, people with vision problems may use AWAIT-enabled cash machines that will provide adaptations like the activation of sound aids or specific format texts. Other examples are the accessibility of old people to electromechanical reserved sits in busesor trains, and the automatic and fast discovery of loss children in malls. Such applications are possible in the context-aware AWAIT networks, that will use information from the surroundings and from the users inside them. Notice that in all the previous examples services are provided without direct actions of the users. These are just some examples of the potentiality of the integration of services in the environment of network with ambient intelligence. Profiles must be part of the mobile device; they must be inserted in its memory (smart card or similar). It is necessary, through the infrastructure provided by the network (discovering services, transport ofinformation, security, location, monitoring, persistence detection, etc.) to access to user profiles which are stored in the devices, just as well as the necessary supplementary information. Once the profiles are known, the network interacts with all the necessary components to achieve the adaptation, again through the mentioned services. This multi-agent environment requires a high degree of coordination at the management and billing levels, and as far as its development takes place within a high competitive framework, some economical rules, techniques and schemes are required so as to ensure its properregulation.

[ENG]The Technical University of Cartagena (Electromagnetics and Telecommunications Research Laboratory) in Spain, offers a novel solution for Mobile Communication Systems, Satellite and Radar Applications. The novel solution is focused on the improvement of the radiation front-end that such systems incorporate to assure coverage and quality of service. Compact leaky wave antennas in hybrid printed multilayered technology are offered to provide design flexibility, easy manufacturing process and reduction in cost production. Properties such as frequency scanning capabilities are easily implemented with the proposed technology for target/satellite tracking and Radar applications. We are looking for companies who are interested in the integration of this new antenna technology with emerging Mobile Communications Systems, Satellite and new Radar Applications. This collaboration can be concretized through license agreements, research contracts or technical consultancy to assist with the new technology integration.
[ENG] A hybrid waveguide-printed technology is proposed for the development of compact leaky wave antennas for Mobile Communication Systems, Satellite and Radar applications. A compact waveguide is used to host a low cost printed circuit, which launches a leaky wave mode using the asymmetry radiation mechanism. In Fig.1 above we show the basic structure of the new leaky wave proposed. The radiation properties and behavior of the structure are fully controlled with the simple printed circuit design placed in the structure. Therefore, by using inexpensive photolithographic manufacturing processes different radiation characteristics can be synthesized. The new antennas can operate as part of wideband communication systems, due to the travelling wave nature of the leaky mode radiation operation, which provides broadband input matching. The wide matching capabilities of the new technology are illustrated in Fig.2 above, where –20dB of matching is demonstrated over a 17% fractional bandwidth. Both wide and narrow beamwidths can be implemented with the technology proposed, according to the needs of the particular application. Furthermore, sidelobes levels can be easily controlled and adjusted with a novel tapering mechanism developed within the technology, in order to reduce interferences. A particular pointing elevation angle can also be designed and adjusted as required. Due to the distribution of the electric field associated to the leaky mode employed for operation, the antenna is able to radiate with linear horizontal polarization, exhibiting very low levels of cross-polarization. It is therefore suitable for applications where linear, high purity polarization is required. All these interesting properties of the new technology are demonstrated in the radiation patterns shown in Fig.3. Frequency scanning capabilities are inherent to this technology, and can be exploited for target/satellite tracking and Radar applications. The unique feature of the technology proposed is that the radiation properties of the structure are controlled by a simple, easy manufacturing, low cost printed circuit placed on the host waveguide. Different sidelobe levels, pointing directions, and beamwidths can be implemented by designing different printed circuits, therefore increasing the flexibility of the technology. A simple and efficient design procedure has been developed for the optimization of the antennas to rapidly achieve targeted radiation characteristics. This is expected to reduce time and cost production associated to the development of high demanding radiation front-ends associated to next generation Mobile Communications Systems, Satellite and Radar Applications. The pointing angle and side lobes level control are illustrated in the radiation patterns shown in Fig.4 above.

The antenna has a dielectric substrate layer whose front side presents a patch antenna fed by a microstrip line stretch and whose back side presents an Earth reference. This patch has the shape of an isosceles triangle which connects one vertex to the stretch, while in parallel to the opposite side of the vertex, there is a slot in the patch operating like a filter. This enables a dual band operation wherein two resonant frequencies are controlled by the variation of the patch size and the slot length. The frequencies can be adjusted to values of 900 and 1800 MHz, facilitating the application of the antenna in dual mobile telephony with GSM and DCS-1800 systems. With this technological offer we try to collaborate with licence agreement and commercial agreement with technical assistance.
The invention consists of a dual band printed antenna planned to be implemented preferably in base stations of dual mobile telephony which use GSM and DCS-1800 systems, although other applications are not rejected.Similarly to the well-known printed antennas, the invented antenna has a dielectric substrate layer whose front side presents a printed patch. This patch is fed by the conventional microstrip line technique that is why the front side presents a microstrip line stretch reaching the patch. The dielectric layer’s backside presents an electric Earth reference. So far, this structure corresponds to the known as ‘printed antennas’.Optionally, the dielectric layer’s backside can include a metallic strip that will facilitate the adjustment corresponding to the bandwidth. The antenna’s microstrip line and the Earth reference can be connected to a SMA connector in order to facilitate feeding. This Earth reference, according to a preferential performance, has the same length as the microstrip line. In other performances, this reference could be placed perpendicular to the radiating patch enabling an omnidirectional configuration of the antenna. Depending on different performances and the sought radiation patterns, the dielectric layer’s backside could have a metallic plug joint to the Earth reference and/or a PTFE element (polytetrafluoroethylene, commonly known as Teflon). In that case, the PYFE element position has been planned to be either following the plug or between the plug and the Earth reference.
