Much progress has been made in different areas of knowledge, such as reproduction, nutrition, management, product quality, however genetic improvement is in its early stages. Breeding programs to improve daily growth and to reduce morphological deformities are being developed (PROGENSA). Today, many pathogens affect different population of fish, and more current concern is to improve disease resistance through breeding programs. Photobacterium damselae subspecies piscicida which has a greater impact on sea bass and gilthead seabream. This disease is first described in wild populations of white perch and striped bass, the natural hosts of the pathogen are currently a wide variety of marine fish. This pathogen provokes pasteurellosis, this being a bacterial sepsis caused by halophilic bacteria. The symptoms that we can observe are tumours of between 0.3-0.5 mm in some organs, externally the distended stomach is observed and internally a congestion and dilatation of the digestive tract. The peak of proliferation of this pathogen occurs in summer, with high temperatures. This study is focused on photobacterium damselae affecting to gilthead seabream population in captivity, how this pathogen can affect depending on the population and to analyse genetic parameters for Phobacterium resistance. The experiment was carried out in two gilthead seabream population, from two different geographies (Mediterranean sea = Med population, and Atlantic Ocean = ATL population). ATL population is coming from PROGENSA project and it was undergone genetic selection for two generation to improve daily growth and absence of deformities. These populations were infected with Photobacterium damselae and immunity traits (peoxidase activity, immunoglobulins, resistance, and days until death) were measured.
