AB - [ESP] La tradición del viaje desde los países del centro de Europa al Mediterráneo comenzó a finales del siglo XVI, en busca de un reconocimiento de la tradición clásica y como estímulo de la renovación artística y del cambio del gusto. La larga lista de viajeros, arquitectos, filósofos, poetas, pintores..., ha contribuido a la formación de una imagen concreta del Mediterráneo en las diferentes épocas. Ello nos hace pensar en la fuente inagotable que el Mediterráneo ha representado como recurso arquitectónico que a lo largo de la historia del Mundo Occidental. El objetivo principal que perseguimos en este artículo es determinar el papel que la arquitectura mediterránea, clásica y vernácula, ha desempeñado en la sucesión de los estilos arquitectónicos desde el siglo XVI hasta el primer tercio del siglo XX. Analizamos por tanto el Mediterráneo, en concreto su arquitectura, como fuente del aprendizaje y de conocimiento válido como material de proyecto. [ENG] The tradition of traveling from the countries of Central Europe to the Mediterranean began in the late sixteenth century in search of a recognition of the classical tradition and as a stimulus for artistic renewal and change of taste. The long list of travelers architects, philosophers, poets, painters, etc., has contributed to shaping a concrete image of the Mediterranean as the evolution in the perception
of the different eras. This fact makes us think of the inexhaustible source as an architectural resource that throughout the history of the Western world has had the Mediter-ranean. The main objective that we pursue in this article is to determine the role the Mediterranean, classical and vernacular architecture, has played in the succession of architectural styles from the sixteenth to the twentieth century. Therefore analyze the Mediterranean, particularly its architecture, as a source of learning and
