AB - [ESP] Durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX la imagen de la ciudad de Cartagena cambia por completo.
Ello se debe en gran parte al establecimiento de numerosas industrias en el Valle de Escombreras,
lo que supuso un notable impulso para la economía de la ciudad. Comienzan a plantearse en
estos años grandes obras de urbanización y se construyen nuevas edificaciones que rompen con la
arquitectura preexistente. Las viviendas modernistas de principio del siglo XX y su recargada ornamentación
contrastan ahora con grandes bloques de edificios caracterizados por la funcionalidad, elemento definitorio de la arquitectura de estos años. [ENG] During the second half of the twentieth century, the Cartagena’s image changes completely. It is, above all, by the large number of industries that were established in the Valle de Escombreras,
assuming a boost in the economy of the city. Lots of development works begin to plan in these and new buildings break with the architecture that was in the city. Modernist houses of the early twentieth century with three floors mostly, wooden balconies and highly ornate, now contrast with large buildings, characterized by its functionality that will define the architecture of these years.
