AB - [ESP] Excavar, del latín excavare, significa etimológicamente acción de sustraer, subtrahĕre, suprimir. Sin embargo, pese a su inevitable ambigüedad, el significado de la palabra no sólo puede ser entendido a la luz de la etimología latina. El presente texto trata de explicar que la técnica de excavación es opuesta y complementaria a la técnica de acumulación. Excavar es un procedimiento basado en la sustracción de volúmenes, un trabajo en negativo basado en la eliminación del material, erosionando, excavando y extrayendo. Este ensayo explora, a través de una amplia visión incompleta, algunas experiencias contemporáneas que explican la emergencia de un arquetipo de arquitectura subterránea basada en la formación de la espacialidad introvertida y sugerente del vacío. [ENG] Digging, from Latin excavare (ex-cavare), has etymologically means “make cable” through the action of subtrahĕre (subtract). However, the meaning of the term within its required disambiguation can not be understood only in according to Latin etymology. So the technique of excavation is opposite and complementary to the technique of accumulation. It is a procedure for subtraction of volumes, a negative work in removal of the material, eroding and pulling. The essay explores, through intense and incomplete excursus of the contemporary experiences the rising of the archetypal dimension of underground architecture that reaches to the formation of a spatial introverted and celebratory vacuum.
