[ENG] Italo Calvino wrote ‘... names, now that things no longer exist, are imposed on the page, irreplaceable and peremptory, to be rescued...’ Something similar occurs with drawings of architecture that in many cases no longer exist and that were made by unknown creators, but they stand as faithful chroniclers of history so it can be rescued. It is possible to study the history of the conquest of the territory through the architecture: architecture is the result of knowledge and possession of the territory. To talk about the architecture of New Spain in the 16th century is to talk about an architecture of conquest –the architecture of cities built by the Spaniards during the first century of domination of Central America– but above all it is to talk of military architecture as the earliest manifestation present from the beginning of the conquest. %K Nueva España siglo XVI %K Urbanismo %K Arquitectura militar %K Dibujos de ciudades y arquitectura %K New Spain 16th century %K Town planning %K Military architecture %K Cities and architectural drawings %~ GOEDOC, SUB GOETTINGEN
