%X [Esp]La “Cité Manifeste”, situada en Mulhouse  (Francia),  es  un 
proyecto  experimental  cuyo  objetivo  consistió  en  realizar 
vivienda social de calidad a bajo coste e investigar en nuevas 
formas  de  habitar  y  de  construir.  Una  operación,  realizada 
entre  2003-2005,  donde  la  vivienda  social  volvía  a  aparecer 
como tema protagonista, desde una arquitectura ahora 
contemporánea. 
Cinco equipos de arquitectos participarían en este proyecto-
investigación: Lewis & Potin + Block, Lactaon & Vassal, Jean 
Nouvel,  Poitein  &  Reynaud  y  Ban  &  De  Gastines,  y  bajo  la 
coordinación general de Jean-Paul Robert. 
“Cité Manifeste” se convirtió así en una de las operaciones 
más significativas del comienzo de siglo gracias a la ambición 
y  la  calidad  de  los  técnicos  que  intervinieron.  Sin  embargo, 
esta intervención conjunta es poco conocida, especialmente 
desde esta perspectiva experimental, y los cinco proyectos se 
suelen  tratar  de  forma  individual  y  aislada.  Trabajar  sobre 
“Cité Manifeste” es entender así la importancia de este 
proyecto,  de  manera  conjunta  y  unitaria;  es  entender  así 
cinco propuestas experimentales de vivienda social. [Eng]The  “Cité  Manifeste”,  located  in  Mulhouse  (France),  is  an 
experimental  project  whose  aim  was  to  develop  low  cost  quality 
social  housing  researching  new  ways  of  living  and  constructing. 
Performed  from  2003  to  2005,  it  was  an  operation  where  social 
housing reappeared as the main topic from a perspective now 
considered as contemporary. 
Five teams of architects intervened in this project research: Lewis & 
Potin  + Block, Lactaon  &  Vassal,  Jean  Nouvel,  Poitein  &  Reynaud y 
Ban  &  De  Gastines,  all  of  them  under  the  general  coordination  of 
Jean-Paul Robert. 
“Cité Manifeste” became one of the most meaningful operations in 
the early years of this century thanks to the ambition and technical 
quality  of  the  technicians  who  took  part  in  it.  However,  this  joint 
participation remains mostly unknown, mainly from its experimental 
perspective  and,  consequently,  these  five  projects  are  very  rarely 
treated as a whole but individually. Researching on “Cité Manifeste” 
means to understand the importance of this project, both as a whole 
and  individually;  means  to  understand  five  different  experimental 
approaches to social housing
