Del ‘empirismo’ a la invención: cálculo y proyecto en la arquitectura moderna

Abstract

[SPA] Una buena parte de la crítica arquitectónica mantiene que uno de los mayores condicionantes de la ar¬quitectura moderna es la técnica y, más concretamente, la estructura resistente. Para llegar a dilucidar si eso es así o no, es necesario hacer una lectura transversal de dos fuentes historiográficas distintas: la de la arquitectura y la de la ingeniería. Así, el estudio, tanto de la evolución en el tiempo de ambas disciplinas —a partir de la aparición de la segunda, a mitad del siglo XVIII—, como de la manera en la que los críticos de la arquitectura han entendido la cuestión de la tecnología, sirve para crear una base teórica sobre la que poder comprender cómo se han retroalimentado la ciencia y el arte. Además, se puede llegar a clarificar cómo se ha desarrollado la manera en la que los proyectistas idean sus diseños a partir de la relación estructura-forma. [ENG] Much of the architectural critics maintain that one of the major constraints of modern architecture is the science, specifically, the resistant structure. In order to determine whether this is so or not, it is necessary to make a transversal reading of two different kind of historiography: that of the architecture and that of the engineering. Thus, the study of both the evolution in time of the two disciplines (from the springing of the second, on the mid of the eighteenth century), and the way in which architectural critics have understood the question of techniques, serve to create a theoretical basis on which to un-derstand how science and art influence each other. Moreover, it can be clarified the way that designers have formulated the relation art-science.
