Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the evolution of the Romanian hotel industry by doing a review of its main components: the supply and the demand, during a period of 20 years, between 1994 and 2014. Most of the review is based on the information gathered by the Romanian national institute of statistics. On one hand, it’s centered on the progress hotels made in terms of number and capacity. In order to capture the stages through which this industry has been, the analysis is approached in a deductive manner, using the 5 categories of quality the government grants each hotel. On the other hand, the survey of the demand will be done taking in consideration the type of tourist (statistic available on the national institute of statistics), by residency, and will be able to offer information about the number of tourists, length of stay and, therefore, the evolution of clients´ preferences.
